The star of this piece is its incredible botryoidal — or grape-like — formation, with clusters of soft blush-pink and lavender chalcedony creating a bubbly, sculptural surface. Gemologically, botryoidal describes rounded mineral formations resembling a cluster of grapes. 

Turn the specimen and you’ll discover even more character: earthy gray and cream matrix, vivid streaks of golden yellow and orange, and areas of translucent rosy pink. Bumblebee Jasper itself is a fascinating collector material from West Java, Indonesia. Despite its trade name, it isn’t technically a true jasper; studied material is carbonate-rich and predominantly calcite, with its famous yellow-to-orange coloration associated with arsenic-sulfide minerals such as realgar/pararealgar and its dark coloration associated with pyrite.
